VIENNA, VA – On May 23, Tim Chapman, Democratic candidate for Chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, issued the following statement in response to inquiries regarding his previous interactions with Alexandria Police Captain Shahram Fard:

“As many of you know, I have never made a secret of the fact that I made mistakes as a young man,” Chapman said. “It has come to my attention that The Washington Post is making inquiries about my driving record and regarding an arrest over two decades ago that involved Captain Shahram Fard of the Alexandria Police department. While we had chosen not to politicize our relationship, it appears that this is no longer possible. I will forever be grateful for the kindness Captain Fard showed me as a younger man. His intervention provided a fork in the road that I desperately needed. He and I have spoken about the eventuality of this day and as always he provided sage counsel. Today, I am honored to call him a friend.”
